Where to Schedule Your Schengen Visa Appointment?

Note: This page provides information for the top five destinations in the Schengen Area.

Destinations:

Your Closest City:

The Schengen visa permits entry to 26 European countries within the Schengen area. This travel visa allows the holder to enter and stay within the Schengen zone for up to 90 days within a 180-day period. The Schengen countries have strict rules on where one should schedule their appointment.

Figuring out the consulate, embassy, or foreign mission to apply to is critical in your Schengen visa application process. Applying to the wrong embassy can result in a rejection, even if it were a mistaAdke.

To determine where to schedule your Schengen visa appointment, you may need to know the following:

  • The number of countries you intend to visit
  • The number of days you will be spending in each country
  • The country you step into first within the Schengen zone

You must apply for your Schengen travel visa at the embassy or consulate of your primary Schengen destination. If you only visit one country, this is the diplomatic representation in your country of residence.

If your trip entails visits to multiple Schengen countries, the primary Schengen destination is the country you will spend most days visiting. However, if you intend to spend an equal number of days in each country, then the application is submitted to the consulate or embassy of the Schengen country you enter first.

The interview process involves a face-to-face conversation with a consulate or embassy employee (or staff from a contracted third-party visa application center.) You can schedule the in-person interview through the respective online portal or a call to the consulate/embassy.

You will be asked several questions regarding the trip and must be ready to answer honestly. You also must have the necessary supporting documents at hand. The interview can be as short as three minutes or take longer if there are inconsistencies in your responses.

Schengen Visa Appointment FAQ

How to apply for a Schengen Visa from the USA?

You need to follow a step-by-step process when making your Schengen visa application in the U.S. Here are six tips for a Schengen visa application.

  1. Determine which Schengen visa type you need depending on the purpose of your travel
  2. Figure out where you need to submit your Schengen travel visa application
  3. Determine when to apply and collect the required documents
  4. Schedule a visa interview at the Schengen visa application center for your jurisdiction
  5. Attend the visa interview, ensuring that you are on time and answer the questions truthfully
  6. Pay the visa fee and then wait for the processing of your visa

How many times can I reschedule Schengen Visa Appointments?

You can reschedule your Schengen visa appointment to a future day for a maximum of two times. Further changes in date mandate a new application that can attract a new service charge. If you are late or miss the appointment, you cannot reschedule and will have to make a fresh application after 24 hours.

How long after the Schengen Visa interview will I get my visa?

You will have to wait for at least 15 days after your interview for visa processing.

The processing time varies case-to-case basis, and some applicants may have to wait for up to 60 days. Therefore, it’s prudent to ensure you provide all required documents in time to avoid delays.

How much is a Schengen Visa?

The Schengen countries have agreed on a standard visa fee of €80 ($84 USD) for adult travelers and €40 ($43 USD) for children between 6 and 12. Children under 6 attract no charge. The Schengen visa fees can be reduced or waived under certain circumstances, including:

  • Humanitarian reasons
  • Researchers from non-Schengen countries performing scientific research
  • Members of staff for a diplomatic mission

Individual Schengen countries may have additional waiver conditions, and you should check with the consulate in your country of residence to know if you qualify.
